Profitable mobile solution for stock automation
INTRODUCTION
mStore is a mobile solution for automating store activities created with a purpose to extend the standard functionality of the ERP systems. It is designed to be the "extended hand" of the ERP system.
Using such a solution enhances the integration of the material and information flows in the store and optimizes the company's logistics processes.

mStore is a rich-functionality, ergonomic and highly reliable, yet comparatively profitable solution in terms of hardware and software equipment for stock automation.
SYSTEM SOLUTION
The mobile solution mStore is fully integrated with the ERP system Microsoft Dynamics NAV on MS SQL Server database.
This configuration allows real-time operation of the mobile device via wireless connection or independent work and periodical exchange of data through dedicated stations.
In both cases, the PDA device receives assignment for processing (commissioning, stock-taking, expedition, etc.) from the ERP system and after completion, sends it back. Then the ERP system automatically processes the received data and prints the necessary enclosed documents.
At the time of assignment realization, the stock availabilities are tracked in real time taking into account the availabilities processed at the moment and uncompleted assignments.
MODULAR CONCEPT
mStore consists of the following modules supporting the respective activities in the stock:
- commissioning;
- expedition;
- receiving goods;
- stock-taking;
- production;
- administration.
All the mStore modules have the following features:
- Built-in logic for tracking shipments
- Track availabilities by stores and shipments;
- Receive the major part of data (article number, shipment, number of pallets, etc.) through scanning the respective barcode labels, attached on the pallets in the store
The modular architecture and rich parameterization options offer optimum customization of the product according to the specific clients' requirements.
COMISSIONING
 After disposition of the orders in the ERP system, commission assignments are generated - they can be selected and loaded for processing in mStore.
The processing of the commissioning assignment includes the following steps:
- Choice of a store from the mobile terminal;
- Choice of a processing assignment (s);
- Scanning an article number, shipment and store unit from a barcode label of the pallet (EAN 128);
- Entering the quantity;
- New pallet;
- Entering transport means;
- Closing the assignment;
- Printing the enclosed documents and pallets labels containing barcode with the number of each pallet
The commissioning with mobile terminals in real time provides synchronic informational and material flow; thus – an opportunity for immediate reaction in case of goods shortage.
EXPEDITION
This module controls the loading of the commissioned pallets. The barcode labels attached to the pallets allow the mobile device to identify the pallets. The following checks for each expedition are made:
- is the scanned pallet in the expedition assignment;
- all the pallets loaded
If a pallet is missing, the ERP system is notified in order not to include the goods in this pallet in the enclosed document.
After expedition is finished, the enclosed freight documents are printed.
RECEIVING GOODS
This module is used for controlling the incoming goods. It allows entering (scanning) the shipment numbers of the delivered goods and estimating goods quality and package condition on the spot. This removes the necessity of paper documents and improves the quality of the information at receiving goods.
The processing of goods receiving assignments includes the following steps:
- Selecting a store from the mobile terminal;
- Selecting an assignment for processing;
- Scanning an article number and shipment from the barcode label of the pallet (EAN 128);
- Entering quantity;
- Entering estimation for the quality and condition of the delivered goods;
- Entering transport means;
- Closing the assignment;
- Printing the enclosed documents
INVENTORY
This module is used for complete or partial stock-taking of the stores. It is designed in such a way so as to give an opportunity for highest degree of parallel counting and quick completion.
The Inventory module has the following features:
- Dividing each store in any number of zones for stock-taking;
- Separated processing of the zones and options for parallel processing of multiple zones;
- Data validation and avoiding input of incorrect data;
- Quick queries for the status of the currently processed zone;
The processing of the inventory assignment includes the following steps:
- Selecting an assignment for stock-taking (store);
- Selecting a zone for stock-taking;
- Scanning an article number, shipment and pallet number from the barcode label of the pallet (EAN 128);
- Entering the quality on the pallet;
- Closing the stock-taking zone
- Printing a control list of the stock-taking zone;
- Confirming or deleting the results for the zone
PRODUCTION
This module is used for commissioning the raw materials necessary for the production.
The processing of the production assignments includes the following steps:
- Selecting an assignment(s) for processing;
- Scanning an article number, shipment and store unit from barcode label(EAN 128);
- Entering the quantity
- Closing the assignment
- After closing the production assignment, the enclosed documents are printed.
ADMINISTRATION
The administration module of the mobile application operates on Windows 2000/XP and has the following service and communication features:
- Installation on the mobile device;
- Update on the mobile device;
- Deleting entered orders;
- Defining stock-taking zones;
- Status tracking of the assignments;
- Operational queries for the stock-taking;
- Data archives
